24 hours that changed everything
Early that morning at 7 o'clock, I began what would become one of the most challenging 24 hours of my life. The goal was clear but daunting: break the world record of 66,000 sit-ups held by an American athlete.
Broke Australian record with 39,000 sit-ups in 15 hours
Started the 24-hour world record challenge
Pushed through extreme fatigue and pain
Completed 70,805 sit-ups - World Record!
Choosing June, Australia's coldest month, was strategic. Cooler temperatures help the body perform better during extreme endurance events. But even with perfect planning, nothing could fully prepare me for the mental and physical battle ahead.
This wasn't my first major endurance challenge. In 1993, I had already broken the Australian record in a separate 15-hour attempt with 39,000 sit-ups. That experience taught me valuable lessons, but the 1994 world record attempt was an entirely different beast. This time, I was going for the full 24 hours—and the world record.
The last few hours were the hardest. Every muscle fiber was screaming. My body begged for rest. But my mind stayed focused on one thing: finishing what I started.
At the 24-hour mark, I had completed 70,805 sit-ups—shattering the previous world record and setting a new standard that still stands today, over 30 years later.
